After a bit of beer and some heavy makeup, we were ready to pre-party.
Let me introduce you to our derby darlings:
and my fav:
- AMMO WINEHOUSE
- (I originally put Ammo Stackhouse when I first blogged this because apparently I have True Blood on the brain. Sookie Stackhouse)
- Check out her awesome derby pics: http://www.hellocupcakellc.com/
- HONEY BADGER
- Stop. If you haven't see this video, click on this link and watch it RIGHT NOW:
- Only then will you understand how Tubular this roller derby outfit is:
uh. Mah. zing.
Unfortunately, I didn't get profile pics for all of the derby girls (some avoided me), but I caught some action shots.
Once we'd cooked some yummy pizzas on the grill we headed over to see the local #6 Bay Area Derby Girls (B.A.D.) faced the #1 Rocky Mountain Rollergirls.
They played on a flat rink, as opposed to the curved rink (like we saw in Whip It). The big difference I noticed was that on the flat rink the lead group (sorry I can't remember the technical names) don't have to start skating or moving until the 2nd whistle is blown. Whereas in the curved rink they have to start skating? (anybody know more about derby than me? comment below :))
blog sidenote: I've started to get more readers and followers (yay! thanks guys), but i'm still not getting many comments. I love to hear from you guys, so feel free to chime in whenever you'd like. 🙂
anyways, it was still really fun to watch. These girls are really hard core, and it is obvious it takes a lot of practice and skill to be a derby cool (and i thought a wig and eye makeup was all you needed. . . ).
This video doesn't even do justice to how rad it was:
There's Queen Elizabitch!!
showing off my sweet eyeliner tat
