This may be a "you had to be there" sort of story, but I want to share anyways. Over our very stressful but extremely joyful holidays, I coined a simple phrase that has become a really awesome check-in cue for me and Viet that is also helping to really frame 2012 for me.
We were wrapping presents for his nieces and nephews and speaking of some stressful wedding hurdles and things got a bit heated. so I stopped for a minute, took s deep breath, and then it hit me. I said, "honey. Please remember that I am speaking to you F- A-P-O-L. FAPOL!
Then he looked up a bit confused and said, "did you say 'if I pee a little?'"
This of course brought us both to crying laughter, and I said "NOoooo. FAPOL. From A Place Of Love not If I pee a little!!"
This was a hilarious moment with a seemingly overly obvious sentiment, but it helped us to really check ourselves. Since then we have been using FAPOL/from a place of love/if I pee a little interchangeably to help remind us that no matter what stressful thing arises or how differently we may be thinking about or feeling about any given situation– that ultimately everything we do related to one another comes from a place of love (or at least it should).
And I tell you what, for us it has been a reminder that can't be said enough and never ceases to help bring perspective to the moment.
So 2012, I say to you, I am going to try to live this whole darn year from a place of love. FAPOL baby. That's where it is at.
