I have a few tabs up at the top of this new and improved blog, and one of them is called Aurora.
She’s my very own life list.
I’ve always wanted to create a bucket list of things to do during my lifetime, so since this blog is about doing what I dream to become who I believe in–I figured it was about time.
I love the idea of focusing your life on some things you would like to experience. I think the best life lists are made up of big things and small things–of some things that would take considerable work to make happen and some things that are just about dedicating the time and will and taking easy steps.
So why is my life list named Aurora? Aurora is my favorite word. It means dawn in Spanish.
It’s a word that gives me hope. Each new day starts with a new dawn. una aurora.
Before I started Not Merely Living, years ago, I lived in Chile for a while and studied Literatura Hispanica. And while I was there, I kept a blog called “una aurora y los mismos cielos” and later just Aurora when I moved back to the states.
But that idea, a new dawn and the same skies, was so beautiful to me. That even across the world I was staring up each new morning to the same sky. It helped to keep me grounded and to feel connected to my family so far away, but it also helped remind me of the opportunity that each new day brings.
Each new dawn makes me feel as though I could do anything. Because each day is a new chance to live out your dreams and to embrace the life you want for yourself.
The first steps to living out your dreams, is writing them down, saying them out loud, and then making a plan for achieving them. That’s the way to continue being the person you believe in.
You know my mantra:
~Dream. Do. Be.~
So this list is a work in progress. Now I’ve just got 28 items (one for each year I’ve been born). I’m going to try to thoughtfully add to it over the next few months, and then I’m going to make a plan to start crossing things off my list!
One of the things I want to do first off is figure out what categories I want in my life list.

Do you have a life list? What categories do you think every life list should have?
