I spent a lot of time with my mom's parents (my grams and gramps) growing up. My grandparents are the best. They mean a lot to me. They were such an integral part of my childhood. When I started high school my family moved about four hours away from my grandparents. When I went off to college just a short twenty minute drive from them, I was thrilled because I got to see them a lot more often.
I interviewed them my senior year of college for a creativity project and asked them lots of questions about their childhoods all the way up through how they met and after. I also got lots of their old pictures and scanned them, so that I could have copies.
This is one of my favorite pictures ever because my grandparents look so picture-perfect joyful, but then there is my mom in the bottom right corner crying. Hilarious.
A few months ago I was speaking with my grams over the phone, and she asked me if I had picked out my wedding jewelry yet. When I said not yet, she said that she wanted to see if I would be interested in wearing the pearls that my grandfather gave her on their wedding day (!!!!) and that she also wanted me to have them (!!!). I was driving at the time, and I immediately started bawling. It means SO much to me to be able to wear her pearls on my wedding. I love my grams and gramps so much, and I look up to their relationship so much. It will be really special to carry a symbol of their love with me when Viet and I get married.
And, because of course Gramps has great taste, they are the most beautiful/delicate/awesome pearls. ever.
I think they will look perfectly with my lace dress. Here's a shot of the necklace on me:
and a shot of the necklace with the earrings my mom and I found over christmas to match:
I can't wait to wear my grandmother's pearls on my wedding day!!
