Ever since I turned 29 on the 29th of October last year, I’ve been celebrating my “golden year” by honing in on some key fun things I want to do/see/be each month before I turn 30. Already Five months in, I’m really loving my golden year. My priorities each month feel more targeted than just monthly goals, but they also add a bit of random/fun into my monthly routine. In the past I’ve always had so many swirling ideas of things I wanted to do or try, but I never had a system to help me prioritize them and tackle them.
Each month I’ve designed a different visual framen (like the one below) for my golden priorities. In the past I’ve always made these in Photoshop Elements, but this month I decided to take my design out of the computer. I brushed off my new watercolors and went to work. All of the images in this month’s frame were painted by myself and then scanned and moved around to create this design in PSE. Obviously, I’m not a painter or a graphic designer, but I sure had fun practicing my painting and seeing it come to life on the screen.
Here’s what I’m focusing on this month:
Color: Pink> Oh pink! I’ve never been a huge pink girl, but I’m always drawn to it every spring as the cherry blossoms bloom. Pink feels like a very fun but calming color, which is exactly what I need for April.
Be (theme): Travel Planning> Well, it’s official folks! We’re going to France and Ireland this summer! I am absolutely thrilled! I literally can’t contain my excitement. Our honeymoon was the first long trip we took together, and we’re anxious to get some more travel under our belt. Neither of us have ever been to France or Ireland, so we need lots of help (and lots of research) to plan our trip. We are going to fly into Nice and spend some time visiting the various southern costal cities (!!!), and then we’ll take the train up to Paris to spend a week there before we head to Dublin to meet up with our friends Elizabeth and Cole. We are in complete information gathering mode, so if you have any recommendations please lay ’em on me!
Listen (weekly playlists): 80s>Ohhhh I’ve been waiting for this musical focus. Get Ready friends. It was only a matter of time before I gave in to this musical guilty pleasure. What’s your favorite 80s band? Let me know in the comments below, and I’ll make sure to add them to one of my Sunday Song Lists.
Read (book of the month): The Paris Wife>a novel based on Hemingway, his first wife, and their life in Paris! I am so in. I am really looking forward to reading a book set in Paris in preparation for our trip, but I’ve also always loved Hemingway. I can’t wait to get started on this one.
Eat: Eggs!> ok. I know this one may seem a little odd compared to my culinary attempts of earlier months. But aren’t eggs in a culinary category of their own? I love eggs, and they are extra awesome since they contain all the necessary amino acids. And the best thing about eggs is that they are an essential ingredient in so many amazing different foods! Get ready for some eggcellent dishes!
Craft (DIY): Cake box> I have a sweet little project I’m been dreaming about for a while that I’m going to make this month. I love throwing a good birthday party, and I really like celebrating with cake! I have a good friend who has a birthday coming up this month, and this is just the DIY to help make it special.
Travel: Reno> For my friend’s birthday, we are taking a quick trip up to Reno (the biggest little city in the world) to celebrate. Now Reno has it’s good sides and bad sides, but I’m looking forward to doing some celebrating, playing some blackjack, and getting out of the city for a long weekend.
Aurora (my life list): Making a Quilt> My grandmother is a quilter. She has made a unique and beautiful quilt for each grandchild. I still cherish the quilt she made for me and always keep it with me. I’ve always wanted to learn how to quilt, and my grams has given me a few books. I’ve been inspired for awhile by Elise’s beautiful quilts, and I’m finally going to try to make one this month! I’ve already picked out all the fabric I need. Have you made a quilt before? If so, do you have any tips for me?
Capture (Photography): #fmsphotoaday> Still loving Fatmumslim’s monthly photo a day prompts. Join along! You can get all the details on her blog. You can follow my progress on Instagram: @notmerelyliving.
