If you’ve been following along with my adventures, you know that typically each month on the last day of the month I review my golden month progress.
April was different.
For the first time in this Golden Year experiment, I really just walked away from many of my goals (the DIY project, photoaday, my book of the month, even my song lists) and let myself be guided in different directions.
There were several factors contributing to this: 1) my work got Cuh-Ray-Zee in April. Everything turned on it’s head and suddenly I wasn’t sleeping well or thinking well. 2) I allowed myself (as I believe I should) to prioritize people over anything else. I spent time with longtime friends, cultivated new friendships, and allowed myself to be pulled in new directions.
The end result is that for the first time in this golden year, I fell short of many most of my monthly goals. And, although it stressed me out for a few days, I’m mostly over it. This is life.
It gets in the way. It’s messy and confusing, and (newsflash! to no one) it throws curveballs.
These monthly goals (and this whole project for the year) is extremely important to me. I care deeply about purposefully enriching my life in more meaningful ways, and I know that in my case I have to have a thoughtful plan to make that happen (otherwise the days just slip away). That said, I also believe very strongly that this blog helps to inspire me and my every day life, but I never want these goals to be a source of unnecessary stress or pressure. I’ve got enough of that already in my life. I believe that when your “fun things” become stressful, it’s time to walk away from them for a while. Essentially, that’s what happened to me in April. So I’m tweaking things a bit for May.
I am as committed as ever, but I’m also making sure I’m gut checking my list (and not overloading it).
In review, here are the awesome things I did make happen in April:
>>Color: I was totally coveting pink.
>>Be: Travel Planning! We booked our flights (and got half covered in mileage) and our hotels in Paris (on CC points!). We still need to plan our South of France accomodations, but I’m excited about what we’ve tackled so far.
>>Eat: Eggs (click on the photo below to go straight to the recipes):
>>Travel: We went to Reno!!! Check it out.
>>Aurora: I made a quilt! Details and plenty of photos coming soon, but here’s a sneak peak:
May feels like a completely fresh start for me. May Day. A new day. A new month. I’m taking a deep breath and focusing on all the fun things that are coming up.
Here are my goals for May:
Listen (playlists): New>I need your help for this month’s musical focus! I’m going to switch it up a bit by having one playlist for the month instead of weekly additions, but I need your help! What is you favorite new band or song or album? What are you listening to that you need to share? Let me know!
Read (book of the month): Middlesex. This one’s been on my to-read list for a while, and I’m going to tackle it this month.
Aurora (my life list): Learning French> I’m going to try to learn a phrase a day!! I want to learn a little french so that I can be better prepared for our trip this summer. Do you have any tips for me or phrases you think I should learn? Drop me a note!
Capture (Photography): #fmsphotoaday> Still loving Fatmumslim’s monthly photo a day prompts. Join along! You can get all the details on her blog. You can follow my progress on Instagram: @notmerelyliving. April was a rough photoaday month for me, but I’m recommitting in May! Join me!
Knit (#knittingclub): In March, Researching San Diego and I started our very own long distance Knitting Club! This month we’re making hats! Want to join us? Jump on to Instagram and show us your progress with the #knittingclub hashtag!
Happy May day. Thanks for being supportive of me where I am right now. You guys are the best.
P.S. Check back later today for a bonus post on the #plantakiss project!
