I met today’s blog crush (Camille from Planning Pretty) at a blogger get together in San Fran a few months ago, and I knew instantly that we would be friends. Camille is one of the most genuine, lovely ladies you could ever meet. She is quick to smile and to laugh, and she seems to bring a bright joy into every room she enters. I love reading Camille’s blog, and I’m thrilled to feature her as my latest blog crush. Read on to learn a bit more about Camille:
When did you start blogging and what inspired you to start blogging?
I first started Planning Pretty in November of 2012 after moving to the bay area from Los Angeles. I was in the middle of a career change, a newlywed and living in a new city! I wanted to create a place where I could share all the tips I discovered as I adapted to my new life. Just a month before I started my blog, I met Joy Cho at her book signing for Blog, Inc and felt so inspired!
What is your favorite aspect of writing your blog? What do you find the most challenging about blogging?
I love shopping online and in stores for great affordable decor and fashion. I pin or save all my favorites and then create guides in photoshop to share on the blog. Taking care of the “research” makes it so much easier for everyone to create beautiful homes and style. The hardest part is definitely the amount of time that goes into good content. It takes a lot of planning to prevent procrastination, but late nights do happen.
What are your favorite posts you’ve written recently that made you feel like Yes! that was awesome!?
First is an affordable redesign of a writer’s retreat from this year’s SF Decorator Showcase. I loved the original design so much that I wanted to recreate it with accessible pieces. My second favorite post is part of the Be Happy link up hosted by Erin from Artsocial. It’s all about the danger in comparing ourselves to othersand realizing everyone has to start somewhere.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
I read a lot of magazines, design books and blogs all of which give me great ideas for my own content. I also love to wander through Anthropologie, take a walk around Lake Merritt or browse around craft stores! I keep what I like around me as much as possible and that keeps me inspired.
What is your favorite pair of shoes and why?
It’s really hard to choose! I love my weddingshoes from BHLDN, but they are safely on displan in my bedroom. They have vintage design but are a gorgeous robin’s egg blue color. I wear them every now and then, but I want to keep them as a memento.
What was the last great book you read?
I am really bad about keeping up with my reading, but I absolutely loved reading How To Be Lovely by Melissa Hellstern. It’s part Audrey Hepburn biography, part life lessons. I keep it on my nightstand and reread a couple passages every night.
What current dream or goal are you working towards (big or small)?
Having a career that I love. I worked in a lot of different industries and started the blog as a way to narrow my interests down a bit. I’m working towards building something that will provide security, personal satisfaction and helpful to others.
What’s your go-to meal?
I am a breakfast girl, it’s my favorite meal of the day! So my favorite dish for breakfast is french toast made with brioche. My husband loves it, it’s quick and easy and it tastes amazing. I will definitely feature a recipe soon on Planning Pretty. Although, I love to experiment so the dish is never the same twice!
Do you have a personal motto?
I have a personal motto for 2013. I turned twenty-five this year, which really solidifies my place in adulthood, haha. So I say to myself almost every day, “this will be my best year yet.” It pushes me to keep trying new things, stay hopeful and work real hard.
Who are your top five blog crushes? Is there a blogger that would you love to meet in real life?
This is hard because there are so many amazing blogs that I follow and try to keep up with on a daily basis. Dessert Firt Girl, Oh Joy!, Adrianna Belle, Emily Henderson & A Beautiful Mess are all bloggers I really admire and have an aesthetic and quality that I hope to develop. I would love to meet Emily Henderson in person! She’s had her own TV show, designs awesome spaces with vintage pieces and seems to have a great personality.
