This week I want to think and write about body image:
This is something I’ve been struggling with for my whole life (anyone else?), and I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately and how body image, lifestyle, and health all intersect for women in America. Writing about my body image was on my 30 Before 30 list, because it’s something I struggle with a lot, and it’s hard to get my thoughts on this subject very grounded. At least for me personally, there’s a lot of guilt and self-evasion and a vicious cycle between them that has often kept me from unpacking my thoughts too deeply on this subject.
Facing the next decade seems like the best time to write about this as any. I took this picture for this week’s prompt, because often it just feels like I’m looking at myself from so many different lenses all at once:
This is the 2nd prompt in a new weekly writing prompt series. If you want to write about this week’s prompt on your own or on your blog or site, leave me a note or send me an email so I can give you a shout out at the end of this week.
My original Writing Prompt plan didn’t work out exactly as I had grandly imagined, so I’m evolving it. Instead of posting my own thoughts up front, I’m going to wait to share my response to the prompt at the end of the week.
I also realized that it’s silly to try to give myself posting deadlines in the afternoon, because let’s be honest, Sundays sometimes take unpredictable turns. So, I’ll be here posting every Sunday, and I’ll do my best to get it as close to 5pm as possible.
I know this week’s prompt is a little scary, but I hope you’ll take some time for yourself this week to think or write about this tricky subject.
Thanks so much for reading and for writing,
