Total Crafting Time: 2 hours for 31 goals
Tip: Practice your hand-lettering in advance
Last year I really loved my 30 Before 30 Goals, but there were too many of them so I couldn’t memorize them or have them top of mind most of the time. So this year I really wanted to create a reminder that I could hang on the wall to remind myself of what I’m working towards in 2014. I just sorta dreamed this project up as a way to practice my hand-lettering and as a way to feature this year’s goals. It isn’t perfect or straight, but I just love how it turned out. It really brightens up our office.
- A2 PaperSource flat cards in pure white for each of your goals and your one little word for 2014
- two shades of green washi tape
- green baker’s twine
- a 3 ft wooden dowel ( you can normally find these at your local hardware store)
- some sort of writing utensil (ink and nib, calligraphy pen, paint pen)
Step 1. Cover all four edges of your white cards with washi tape. I tried to be as precise as I could, but don’t stress too much if a little white shows around the edges. I did about half in the darker green washi and half in the brighter green.
Step 2: Write out each of your goals in your own handlettering–
and then set out to dry.
Step 3: After you’ve waited at least 20 minutes after the final card, arrange the cards on the floor, moving them around until you set the order you’d like to hang them. I tried to make an interesting pattern of the bright and darker green cards, and I specifically made sure the cards weren’t in numeric order.
Step 4: After you’ve arranged the cards in rows and columns, flip the rows over one by one and tape the baker’s twine to the back of each card. Leave about a third of an inch in between each card and leave about a foot of twine at the top of each column (you will tie this to the dowel later on).
Tape together the cards by columns with the baker’s twine first, and then criss cross and tape the twine across the rows.
Step 5: Tie the twine from the tops of the columns to the dowel (making as many knots as you need to in order to keep it sturdy).
Stpe 6: Hang the dowel up with nails and enjoy!
and voila! You have an easy goal wall hanging to help remind you daily of all the fun and awesome things you are planning to accomplish in 2014.
