The 52 Card Games project is my first 52 Weeks project. I love card games, and I love learning new games and playing the games I love. For this project, I’m documenting a new card game each Friday. In case you’ve missed any of the first nine games, check out all of the previous 52 CARD GAMES.
This is a simple but highly entertaining game. It’s equal parts skill and luck.
The dealer deals four cards face down in a square to each player. The dealer turns over the top card of the draw pile to create the discard pile. Each player is allowed to peek at two of their four cards (two of their choosing) once at the start of the game.
Play begins to the left of the dealer. Each player can pick from the draw pile or from the discard pile during their turn. During their turn a player can replace a drawn card with one of the face down cards. The drawn card must be placed face up in the original dealt card’s place, and the original dealt card must be discarded. A player may discard a card drawn from the draw pile if it’s not a card they like, but they can’t just pick up and discard a card from the discard pile. If you draw from the discard pile, you must be able to replace one of your face down cards.
The goal of the hand is to try to collect the four lowest possible scoring cards.
Play continues until a player believes they have the lowest possible score they could. Once a player is ready to end the game, they can knock on the table at any time
Knocking signifies that all other players besides the player who knocked have one more turn before the round ends. Once each of the remaining players have taken their turn, all players reveal their cards and the hand is scored.
Ending the Game
You can choose to play 9 or 18 hands (just like golf holes). After 9 or 18 hands, the player with the lowest score wins.

Play on, Players!
