The 52 Card Games project is my first 52 Weeks project. I love card games, and I love learning new games and playing the games I love. For this project, I’m documenting a new card game each Friday. In case you’ve missed any of the seventeen games I’ve featured so far, check out all of the previous 52 CARD GAMES.
This game reminds me a lot of spades, but it’s much simpler and players don’t bid in advance. Partners sit facing one another, and the goal for each partnership is to win as many tricks as they can.
Deal out all the cards. The final card (which should be the dealers) is dealt face up. The suit of this card will be the trump for all 13 tricks in the hand.
The player to the dealer’s left starts the play, and they can lead with any card. The other players must follow suit if they can. If they can’t they can play a trump or any other card. The trick goes to the highest trump or the highest card played in the lead suit if not trump has been played. The winner of the trick begins the next trick.
Scoring & Ending the Game
Once all the 13 tricks have been played, which ever team scored the most tricks gets 1 point for every trick above 6 that they won (e.g. if team 1 won 7 tricks and team 2 won 6 tricks, team 1 scores 1 point. If team 1 won 9 tricks, and team 2 won 4 tricks, team 1 scores 3 points [9-6]). Then you can just set a score to play to such as 5 points or 10 points.
It’s as simple as that! I like how the game is constantly changing as the trump changes. Keeps you on your toes!

Play on, players!
