Last week your papa, sister, and I waited patiently while the radiologist measured your arms and your legs, took pictures of your heart and brain, and checked off the little boxes on the screen. And then she turned and smiled and said, “are you ready?”
I was clutching your dad’s hand tight as I nodded, but I already knew in my heart of hearts what she was going to say. “It’s a boy!”
Unlike with your sister, with you I had this deep feeling you were a boy. I kept accidentally calling you he or him. I just knew deep down somehow. I wasn’t necessarily hoping you would be a boy or a girl, I just had the feeling. My little guy.
Of course I immediately started crying as soon as she said it out loud. You are our baby boy. I almost wanted to say, nice to meet you, son. You’re you, and we love you so, so much! Our hearts couldn’t be more ready to welcome you.
My sweet boy,
We are overjoyed that you will be joining our family. As I watched you roll and move, I couldn’t help but feel proud. The radiologist said he is really moving! Can you feel that, she asked me?
I can feel you, my darling! For over a month now, I’ve felt you move and shift and flutter. I’m so happy that you’re growing and safe.
My sweet boy,
You are entering the world with a solid legacy of loving men that have come before you. Your father is one of the smartest, funniest, biggest hearted men I have ever known. I wish you could you have met your grandfather. He was such a great man, but he lives on in you.
We are here for you, my little one. Two big, happy extended families (the Hansons and the Nguyens) are waiting to love you so hard.
You papa and I are so happy. We are excited to meet you, to hold you, to love you, to welcome you to our little family. Your sister doesn’t even know yet how much fun you’re going to bring into her life.
For now, just keep growing, my love. We’ll be here waiting to meet you in about five more months. 🙂
