Happy two weeks to you and happy birthday to America!
You are a delight, my son. I can’t believe you’ve only been with us for two weeks! It feels like we’ve known you so much longer than that.
I am so relieved to tell you appear to be in perfect health. We’ve had no more scares. You’re eating and sleeping like a champ. You’re growing so fast! You’ve already gained more than one pound since we left the hospital!
Your mama is doing so much better and feeling so much stronger than I did after your sister was born. Nursing has been so much easier this time. Maybe this is because you’re much bigger than your sister was. Maybe I just know better what a good latch looks and feels like. In either case, you and I are doing great.
One of my postpartum goals was to get out of the house sooner and more often than I did with your sister. Last time I didn’t get out of the house for over a month, and this time we’ve been out and about since we got home. I’m sure some people are horrified when they ask how old you are and I say two weeks :/, but I’m proud of us. We are exploring and seeing the world! We’ve been showing Gigi the town, and you’re such a good baby. You just go with the flow. You don’t mind nursing while we’re out and about, and you sleep through just about everything. You like being in the solly wrap and the lalabu soothe shirt.
I didn’t think it was possible to love you more little one, but each day your dad and I are learning more about you and finding more reasons to love you:
You hate baths, diaper changes, and clothing changes. Baths especially seem to be your least favorite. This may be the only 1 second in the whole bath where you weren’t very angry. Even though you seem to hate baths, you always seem so content and sleep so soundly (and smell so much better) afterwards. 🙂
You laugh a lot in your sleep. I don’t have picture of this, but it’s the best. You lay on my chest while you sleep, and then all of a sudden, you start giggling. so perfect. so amazing.
You have this calm about you. When you’re awake and alert, you are calm, quiet, and observant. You really don’t cry that often at all unless you’re hungry. I’m so grateful for you. You sleep so soundly that your sister can be literally screaming next to you, and you do not wake. It will be awhile before we start to get a sense for your personality, but I’m betting you’ll be a lot like your father. He’s one of the wisest and calmest people I know. 🙂 Did I mention the hippest too? see below.
You get the pops. Towards the end of my pregnancy with you, you had the hiccups in my belly all the time. Now that you’re on the outside, you still get the hiccups fairly often. Your sister’s hiccups always sounded like clicks so we called them the clicks. Yours are more like a popping noise, so we call them the pops. 🙂
Your happy place is snuggled right up on my chest. You like to be held, and I like to oblige. I try to put you down a lot when you fall asleep, but you’re still in the stage where you want to be snuggled next to one of us. We don’t mind.
You snore. 🙂
I’ve started calling you Bubba. I don’t know why. It’s not like you didn’t have enough names already, but I just started calling you Bubba without realizing it. Now Bea is calling you that too. 🙂
You are so loved, my dear August, always,
