I love antiques.
My mom has sold antiques for as long as I can remember, so they feel like they're almost a part of my DNA. For a while during my early teenage years she had a brick and morter store called Hanson House where she sold as many beautiful vintage items you can imagine (hats, dresses, furniture, jewelry, etc). Today she has several booths had different Antique malls in Alabama, and she is constantly collecting treasures wherever she goes to include in her booths.
I love finding that perfect vintage find that's unique and pristine and something unlike you've ever seen before. One of those moments where you think . . . they just don't make em like they used to.
A few years ago, my mom and I started Not Merely Vintage, so that we could share our love of vintage things from opposite sides of the country. We both have big dreams of expanding the shop, but for now it's mostly odds and ends. Mom finds the items, takes the pictures, and does the shipping. I post each of the items on Etsy and manage the online store.
Every time I find a vintage piece I love, I can't help but imagining a story behind it. . . who owned it, where it traveled, where it was made and why. Someone must have poured their heart and soul into this design, the color choice, the fabric. . . someone bought it nice and new in a prettily wrapped package and carried it home to display or to wear or to give as a gift.
Looking for antiques or vintage goods is like hunting for treasure. Most of the time you don't even know what exactly you're looking for until you find it. To satiate my love of vintage treasures, I'm starting a new series today called vintage finds where I do a round up of vintage items of a certain type. To kick it off, today I'm featuring an item that I love and have a small colleciton of: bud vases!!
I think bud vases are so romantic, and I love to tuck them all over the house. Nothing brings life to a desk or a window seal like a single rose in a bud vase. Here's some of the my favorite vintage bud vases right now:
